Hello. Traced my family back to a slew of McGuires in Kentucky, but now looking for how they got to KY from Ireland. Bits and pieces I could find point to Dublin as where they came from. And Ferminagh prior to that. A John McGuire, or Constantine McGuire, any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
You need to identify your last ancestor born in Ireland and provide his/her name, approximate year of birth and parents names. McGuire/Maguire is a very common surname in Ireland and Co. Fermanagh has many McGuire/Maguire families. The further you go back the less likely we can locate a baptismal record particularly if it is the 1700s. Thanks!

Oh thanks! I'm just starting out with this, and I think, maybe, the ancestor born in Ireland was John McGuire, born in Dublin county, Dublin 1756? Died in Kentucky 1837. But it could be James McGuire, born in Dublin 1780. Not sure of death. From what I could find, Both show a child named Ambrose McGuire in Kentucky of which I descended from...that's where I'm lost. Any help is appreciated, traveling to Ireland next summer and would love to find some details by then. Thanks!

Fortunately, there are many church records for Dublin city using the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie (Church record Tab). I just did a search for James McGuire up to 1780 and good number of records came up. Keep in mind that many of the RC records are in Latin. Jacobus is Latin for James and Joannes is the Latin for John.
I think your constraint will be not knowing the names of the parents of either John or James (maybe John is the fathe rof James?) but knowing the mother's maiden name is key to confirming any record you find.
Let us know when you confirm your travek plans. We like to know about the trips of our customers so we can possibly find a local volunteer.
