Michael O'Neil born September 1866 in Ireland, immigrated to US in 1869 lived in Rochester, NY - told our framily was from Northern Ireland but do not know for sure. Can anyone help? Many thanks.

According to www.rootsireland.ie there were 28 Micheal O'Neills born in 1866 Ireland and 4 of them in Northern Ireland.
What else do you know about Michael ? Did he naturalise in NY, this might give more details

Here's what I know, OR think I know. The Michael O'Neil I'm looking for was born in September 1866 possibly 1867. He arrived somewhere in the US in 1869. I do not know his dad's name which would surely help. Since he was three upon arrival (that information was in the US Federal Census) it's been nearly impossible to learn more.
He did, indeed, live in Rochester, New York, Monroe County from at least 1900 according to the census of that year.
I honestly believe that his family hailed from Northern Ireland but that is just what I remembering hearing from my mum who has also passed. Michael would be my mum's grandfather and she always claimed that she did not see him often.
Annemarie, I just can't thank you adequately for trying to help me. I feel a very strong tie to Ireland because of my mum and her father. My grampa was and remains my hero. I'd just love to learn more his dad and our tie to Ireland.
