I am looking to find out information about my Great Grandfather, Michael Patrick Cavanagh. He was born in Westmeath in 1833. I am not sure when he came to Canada but by 1860 (age 27) he was married here and had a son. He married Bridget McGurn from Leitrim.
His father's name was Peter Cavanagh b. 1805.
I'm wondering if there are any relatives still in Westmeath. I have a trip to Ireland planned for September, 2018 and would like to see if I can figure out where to go in Westmeath. I have booked a couple of days in Mullingar. It would be wonderful to meet some Cavanaghs if there are any still there!
I have been using Ancestry.ca for historical data but I just keep getting stumped. I did my DNA and found that I am from Ulster for sure.
