+ IHS In loving memory of James & Mary Devine Dromin and their Children Brigid, Anne, Mary, Kate & Margaret Also Annie Lambe Christopher & Joseph Hoey & Mary Devine who died 10th May 1947. R.I.P.

I am looking to know if the headstone is still visable and who his parents are. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Rob Dev think you were here previously, I checked the book of Dromin inscriptions which does not appear to have a publication date but from references appears to be published circa 2010 so recently enough which would indicate the stone still stands.

I live about 15 or 20 miles away and am prepared to have a look but for a variety of reasons this will be in September if that is ok I will revert with a photo.

  • Hello Pat, Yes this is my second posting. Your information from my first was well recived but drew a blank in regards to existing links etc so I was not convinced it was correct. I did take a trip to teh family reserche facility in Dublin a few moonths back when i was visiting with work. Unfortunaltly it was closed due to a bank holiday. Never mind a spend a good day in Dublin. This new pice of information came out of the blue, like most do I suppose. I would be greatfull if you could vist and if posible provide a picture. If all come up well I will have to vist. Regards Rob

Hello RobDev, perchance I ahd to go to Ardee today and went by Dromin on my way back, lovely quiet place complete with ruined church and graveyard where I located your grave of interest, on the down side it is not very easy to read at all and will require some expertise to get it all, there appears ot be a lot more on it than in the book of inscriptions of Dromin graveyard, I have scanned in and attach the book page, this is to show that your headstone is in line wiht those other ones in hte book, also a number of Devin graves in the same area of hte yard, am attaching some photos also andhave taken a short video but think it may be too long to attach.

To get there is tricky as you will need a car or taxi, if I am available the day you are about (I am retired I can take you there if you get to Drogheda). There is a train and bus service to Drogheda so not difficult to get to on public transport, or you could take the train and hire a Go Car online for a couple f hours, there is one at the station. THereis alos a bus service to Drogheda via the airport. My site email address is stpeters@irelandxo.com if you want to liase.

Came across this Youtube video on Dromin also. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFZoLyF02kw

Hi RobDev Again, see pictures below of headstone and difficulty of reading, it may be necessary to bring some paper to see if you can trace the words by rubbing, I believe if you have a small water spray and paint brush it can help to bring out the lettering too. Mind you if it is raining you are sort of bunched.

I have some more photos of plaques on walls about Dromin and the school and I am going to try posting them under the parish on this site. I have a short video which is too big to upload, the size restriction is very small.

    Good Luck,
