Hello everyone,

I’m trying to find out more about my Irish roots, my Nan was Irish however she died quite young, a few months before I was born. Her name was Margaret Ann Birch, however her maiden name was Fisher. I know that her mothers name was Nora Fisher and I think Nora may have had a sister called Lilly. My nanny Margaret was born 14th September 1949.
mid you recognise any of these names or people I would love to get in touch with you as I would love to meet any living relatives I may have and would love to make my first visit to Ireland.
my email is meganbirch27@gmail.com

Thank you!

  • Hi Meg

As your Nan's date of birth is less than 100 years ago, birth records later than 1922 are not freely accessible online (via Irish Genealogy).

However, you may apply to the Irish GRO for a copy of your Nan's birth cert which would confirm the name of her parents, their address and occupation, and your Nan's place of birth.

With that information you would be able to come back to us with a request for ancestral information on her parents.

However – the only way to be sure – would be to apply online for her birth cert with the GRO.

    Hope this helps!
