Hello, I am looking for my grandfather, Myles (Miles) Emmett (sometimes listed James) O'Donnell B. County Donegal apprx 1848.( 1846-1850) Died, Cincinnati, Ohio, 1902.
He was schooled in Dublin for shoe making and as a tanner. At the (Christian?) Brothers School.
From census records, he could read and write.
He played the concertina and cornonet and had a hearty laught.
He had 8 siblings.
Father named Patrick and I believe his mother was Mary.
His mother's family may have had the tannery in Dublin. They may have been Sweeney or McSweeney.
He immigrated to the U. S. in 1871 from Liverpool to Boston to Cincinnati.
Married in Cincinnati to Katherine (Catherine) Gannon 1874
I would love to find him.
Thank you,
Kristi O'Donnell

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Finding RC church records pre-1860 for Co. Donegal is very difficult. I did search on Roots Ireland and there were no Myles O’Donnell baptismal records in Donegal with a father Patrick. As you likely know, O’Donnell is a very common surname in the county. As an aside, Sweeney is another common surname in Donegal.
You may want to consider autosomal DNA testing. You will likely match some descendants of the eight siblings and possibly they may know more about the family in Ireland. You may want to do Myles’ story to our XO Chronicles site and maybe someone will recognize the family.

Thank you Roger. I have recently had my DNA done and will continue on that path as well as others.
