James Revell was born in Co Wicklow in 1804. He married Eleanor Brass in Redcross, Co Wicklow on 12 Oct 1830. There is a "residence" reference in 1832 of Dunganstown, Wicklow, Ireland. He moved his entire family to the United States in April, 1849. He died in 1854 in Wisconsin, USA. He is my ggg grandfather.
Ireland Tithe Applotment books show James Revell:
- 1832, Ballykeroge, Dunganstown, Wicklow, Ireland
- 1832 Coolineal, Redcross, Wicklow, Ireland (Gentleman farmer)
- 1833 Ladycastle, Whitechurch, Kildare, Ireland
I would be very gratefull if anyone can help me identify his parents.
THANKS,
revellrb

All of the children (7) appear to have been baptised in the Church of Ireland parish of Kill, Co. Kildare, and some of the baptisms list the residence as Ladycastle, which is a townland located close to the town of Clane in Co. Kildare. James is shown as a farmer on the baptisms so the Tithe listing you located at Ladycastle is the most likely match.
Marriages usually took place in the bride's parish so if that took place in Redcross parish it likely that's where she originated, there are a number of Brass entries shown on the Tithe records, including two in Co. Wicklow that could be related. The Church of Ireland records for Redcross parish go back to 1830 and are held by the RCB Library and RootsIreland includes some transcripts. The parish church at Redcross dates from 1829, earlier records for the area may have been included in Castlemacadam parish. The parish records for Castlemacadam are also held by the RCB Library and go back to the 1720s, RootsIreland also have some coverage - according to their source list baptisms back to 1702. I checked for possible baptism for the surname Brass in Castlemacadam baptisms and found a number going back to the early 1700s but no sign of an Ellen.
The only James Revell baptism that shows up in County Wicklow or Kildare the RootsIreland transcripts 1804+-10 is one in 1814 - in Castlemacadam Church of Ireland parish father John Revell mother Mary*, family residence in Newtown. Bear in mind that survival and online coverage of Church of Ireland records is very patchy so does not cover all dates or areas.
(*mother's maiden surname was not usally recorded on Church of Ireland baptisms)

Thanks for the updates shanew147 !
I have found another Ancestry posting with a Revell family from Wicklow, Ireland and a child named James born around 1800.
The father was Robert Revell (1765 - ) and mother was Mary Anne Gregory (1766 - ).
Children were Martha, Henry, James, Joseph and Robert all born around 1795-1805. Unfortunately there were no records referenced.
However, I have traced their child Henry, who became Reverend Henry Revell (1795 - 1870) who then immigrated to Oxford, Ontario, Canada in 1844. His son James is the only James Revell I can find in the Wicklow/Kildare area of Ireland in the 1790 -1810 time frame in any record. This is the closest, and only match I can find to my ggg grandfather James Revell born in Ireland in 1803.

Hi,
Just putting in a search - must be the same family - for a Joseph Revell who married Margaret Darling in Dunganstow, Wicklow, 1776.
So far, I've come aross nothing. It's actually the Darling side I'd be interested in.
Marriage I got from Betham's, her death is down as 1805, but not sourced.
Any informaton grately received
John
