Hello,
I'm looking for information on the parents and siblings of John Patrick Maloney (born 1867, Ennistymon) and his brother Martin Maloney (born 1870). Any other details of that branch of the Maloney / Moloney family in and around Ennistymon and Ennis would be welcome, too. John Patrick is my husband's great-grandfather. John Patrick's son, Thomas Alfred, is my husband's grandfather.
John Patrick was married to Maria Burke on April 17, 1892 in the chapel in Kilmaley, Ennis. in the 1901 and 1911 census, they are listed as living with their children in Ballyea. Their marriage certificate refers to John Patrick's father as "Patt" from Gortbofarna. However I cannot find any records of Patt, his wife's name, or their other children apart from John Patrick and Martin.
If it helps at all, John Patrick's brother Martin Maloney married Mary Carmody in 1889 and they had 11 children. In the 1911 census they are listed as living in Reanagishhagh, Furroor.
Many thanks for any information you might be able to share!

RE: Moloney
I search the Moloney's of Limerick City, Limericak. Michael Maloney had a daughter Catherine/Katherine "Kate" Maloney. She married John White (Whose father was Michael White) and they lived in Limerick City just a few years. They had two or three children born there and had one or two die there. In 1870 Kate and John White immigrated to the USA (New York?) then to Chicago. They had at least one daughter (Hazel) with them. They may have lost a child at sea or once they landed in New York.
One of the problems is that Hazel basiclly went by the name "Nellie" most of her life.
That is my interest in the Maloney line. I did once read where the Maloney's and the White's were forced off of their better land in County Clair and forced to relocated in Limerick and live in the City.
John became an expressman in Chicago owning his own horse and wagon. He was killed when hit by a train in Chicago. His wife could not take care of 5? children and they were placed in St. Joseph's Orphanage in Chicago. There were 4 boys and 1 girl. One of the boys, George William White is my paternal grandfather.

A couple observations. The Gortbofarna in the 1892 marriage record is where John Patrick was living not where his father was living. As you know John was a teacher and normally if not from the immediate area, teachers would board with one of the families in the area.
The 1901 census for Martin and Mary Maloney shows that Martin's older brother James and younger sister Norah were living in the household. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Clare/Furroor/Reanagis…
I looked at the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie and found an 1874 civil birth record for a Honora Maloney with father Patrick Maloney and mother Catherine Hehir. The townland was Reanagishagh which was where Martin was living in 1901. I will do some checking but likely Patrick and Catherine had died before 1901. I will get back to you.

Catherine Maloney died in 1888 see ninth record

I did not find a good lead for a death record for Patrick.

In regards to Gortbofarna, I have found one other record potentially connecting John Patrick Maloney to that townland. https://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn90059959/1913-10-18/ed-1/seq-…, see close up image attached.
Apparently Grace Maloney, here referred to as daughter of J.P. Maloney of Gortbofarna, was reportedly miraculously cured of a tubercular infection of her knee while participating in Ireland's first national pilgrimage to Lourdes. She is mentioned in a recent book, with an excerpt appearing here: https://www.clareecho.ie/killaloe-womans-cure-recalled-in-new-lourdes-b…. In one place, her age is given as 16 and in another as 21. I am wondering if she is the same as the Mary G Maloney who is listed as John Patrick Maloney's 5 year old daughter in the 1901 census record. This would have made her roughly 17 at the time of the pilgrimage. There are no children named Grace listed in the 1901 or 1911 census records of John Patrick Maloney's family. It is interesting to me that the newspaper, contemporaneous with the 1913 events, lists JP Maloney as being from Gortbofarna despite the fact that he had been living in Ballyea at least since 1901 (if this is, in fact, the same JP Maloney - what are the odds that there were more than one?).
My husband's family always spoke of him as being from Ennistymon, and I believe he was born there, but doesn't seem to have lived there for much of his life.

I just put it together that "N.T. Gortbofarna" in the newspaper article I linked to above refers to John Patrick being a National Teacher there. I feel a little dense that it took me that long to figure out the abbreviation, knowing that he was a teacher at a national school. Still, seems quite the commute from Ballyea in that era.

The one quirk in the article was the comment that Grace had tuberculosis of the knee. I thought tuberculosis was a lung disease?

Roger:
It does typically manifest as a lung infection, but it is also possible for the bacteria to migrate and cause infection and swelling of joint and bone tissue.
