    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Can you provide your husband's grandfathers name and do you know his father's name?

Here is Mark's civil birth record in 1876 which you can find on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie

    https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and it appears Mark had the following siblings: Julia 1870 Patrick 1872 Cormack 1873 Thomas 1877 I did not locate a marriage record for the parents.

The family lived in Lisnagree townland in Killosolan civil parish. Mark Sr. was deceased by the 1901 census  http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Galway/Caltra/Lisnagre…

Patrick and his wife Maria and young Mark were living with Bridget. Bridget died in 1905. Her son Cormack was the informant.

In 1911 Patrick was living by himself. The census record indicates he had seven children.

  • The 1901 census says that Mark was 22 but if he was born in 1876 he would have been 35? Does that often happen that ages are not quite correct?
    Thanks

  • Finola:

If you were born in 1876, then you would have been 24 or 25 as of March 31, 1901 when the census was taken. Many times the ages were off 2-3 years or more on the censuses.

  • hello

I have found out that Mark's (1876) fsather was called Marks Sharkey + he died in 1885  aged 41 I can't find his birth or marriage details though I have tried looking at the parish records which Ireland reaching out sent yesterday but they seem to be in Latin so is there a standard format these followed so could try to decipher to see if can find him in there?

  • Finola:

I searched Roots Ireland again and did not locate a marriage record or a baptismal record for the Mark Sharkey born around 1844.

  • Hi Gerry.

I hope you are well. Im Fergus. My mum is a Sharkey. I think the Cormac Sharkey b 1810 from Moylough is my g g g grandfather.

I can trace my g g grandmother, Julia, to Annaghmore east in moylough,Galway, from 1910 census records. I think she was born in 1846. I dont have a record of her husband but in 1910 she was a widow. But it seems to fit that the Cormack Sharkey you have identified in Moylough would be the right to have a son. Have you any more detail you can share with me re Cormac from 1810?

    Regards

    Fergus

  • Hi Finola. Thanks for your reply. I found who I was looking for and more. Gerry from the previuos posts have a lot of Sharkey family tree. It would appear that John Sharkey born in 1779 is our gggg grandfather.

He had a son Cormack. Cormack had a son Mark, who i think is your husbands gg granfather.

    Great Info here.
