I have two ancestors, definitely born in Ireland, and I've no idea where to start looking for them, as the best my parent can tell me is that "They mentioned Galway." In what context it was mentioned is not entirely clear, and which of them did the mentioning is also not clear.
I can say this much, taken from the 1900 US Federal Census which may or may not be exactly correct:
James QUIGLEY was born in March of 1843 and emigrated around 1857.
Margaret QUINN was born in May of 1845 and emigrated around 1859. Her parents may have been Henry or Harry and Anne. I believe they were married in the Boston area in 1864.
Any/all hints or information on any of these will be gratefully received!

A quick search resulted in 3 possible matches for James Quigley born in 1843
One in county Tipperary, one in county Derry and one in County Sligo, so we will need to narrow it down a bit more.
Their marriage and parents :
Name: James Quigley Birth Date: abt 1836 Event Type: Marriage Event City: Charlestown Marriage Date: 6 May 1864 Marriage Age: 28 Father Name: James Quigley Mother Name: Margaret Spouse Name: Margaret Quinn Searched again for a James Quigley now adding father James to the search and this is the result, so this could be a match .

Hello Brooklyn,
I went to www.rootsireland.ie and did a search for margaret quinn b.1845 father henry and came up with two records in Co. Armagh.
If as you say the county of Galway is involved, then it may be possible that the records could be in Co. Clare which is not online unfortunately.
Try www.castlegarden.org to see if you can find the families. Both would have been very young and travelling with their families. It really is worth trawling through and cross referencing your finds on this site.
Have you looked at www.familysearch.org ?
Hope this helps a little

Since I posted this last spring, I have got a bit more information - Margaret Quigley nee Quinn is listed on her death certificate as having come from Donegal.
I don't know if this means that's where she was born, or where she last lived before coming to the Us, or whether that's just what whoever informed for the Death Certificate came up with.
Any thoughts? Any direction in which I should look?
Thank you!
Theresa

It appears that James Quigley was born in the Kilcommon Parish of County Tipprerary to James Quigley and Mary Ryan. If you give DNA to Ancestry, this will all likely be confirmed. James had siblings Michael, Patrick, Margaret, and maybe others. These are (allegedly) the exact same fam (Co. Tipp to Brooklyn) that I am related to as well.
