Does anyone here know anything about these families in the parish of Killanne/Bailieborough? I've found an 1842 marriage record in the parish register for Edward and Mary but beyond that I'm uncertain of anything related to their families. Edward's relative (possibly a brother) Thomas Clarke was a witness to his marriage.

Edward was born about 1813, and Mary about 1810. I believe their oldest son was born in the area shortly after their marriage - his name might have been "Conard"? Possibly a variation or something that sounded similar like Connor, Conrad, or Cornelius. I haven't been able to find a record of him in Ireland. They moved to America by 1845 or a bit earlier.

Any information is welcome!

  • Hi Josh,

I will try and help you.  But I want to clarify your information.

    1. On the marriage record did it give a townland?  Killann is the Catholic religious parish that covers the churches of Bailieborough, Killann & Shercock and Bailieborough covers the civil area.

    2. Where did you get the son's name from? I am guessing that the child would have travelled with them to America or else he died before they left or on route, that is if you cannot find him in America.  The Great Irish Famine was a disaster that hit Ireland between 1845 and about 1851, causing the deaths of about 1 million people and the flight or emigration of up to 2.5 million more over the course of about six years.  Therefore they are unfortunately in that timeframe.

    3. Clarke is one of the most common surnames here, so King would be an easier one to try and follow.

    4. Are you trying to track family in Ireland or in America?

Best wishes & Happy St. Patrick's Day,  Carmel O'Callaghan
