My great grandmother, Anne Bourke was born in Cashel 29th of August 1853, daughter of Henry Augustine Bourke and Johanna Heffernan. They emigrated to Australia in about 1854 or 5, she started the trip as an infant.
Henry Bourke (my great, great grandfather) was born 1832 in Kilshinaws, Co Tipperary, the son of James Bourkevwho died in Ireland (not sure when) and Ann Thompson, born 1807, who died in Australia in 1882.
I am coming to Ireland next month for the first time to visit the lands of my ancestors and would love any information about my relatives.
Thanks, Lauren
Tess

Hi Lauren,
Thank you very much for your message.
You could try looking in church records for more information. Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available. For Cashel parish, follow this link:
Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so any births, deaths or marriages in the family after this date would be recorded in these records. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office. Here is their website:
http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm
You can search the indexes to these records up to 1958 online at:
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347
You could also check for record of the family in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
I have tried looking up Kilshinaws, however I can find no reference to it. It is possible that it is a misspelling. Depending on what record you found it on it may have been taken down phonetically. Here is a list to all the townlands of Tipperary and the parishes. Perhaps you may be able to find the correct spelling or a townland that sounds similar to it here:

Some other websites that you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/

You could also try visiting the family history centre in South Tipperary during your visit. Please note a fee may apply for their services. Here are their contact details:
Bru Boru Cultural Centre,

Cashel,
Tipperary.

I hope that some of this is helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
