I'm looking to see if anyone could help me track down relatives of Johanna or Matthew. What I know is
Johanna Mary Joseph Flaherty, from Ardfert, just north of the Dingle Peninsuls. Maybe Slieve, near Adfert. I believe around 1842. I have her parents as Patrick Flaherty and Joanie Rael.
Matthew Sullivan was born in a small village called Barrow (that no longer exists?), near Ardfert. I have his parents as Timothy Sullivan and Kate Driscoll (and her father as Matthew Driscol). All from Barrow.
The two didn’t meet until after they got to New York. The story was that Matthew would go down to the shore of the bay and look across the water and dream of going to America. She may have immigrated in 1872? Their first child, John Patrick Matthew Flaherty Sullivan (my great grandfather) was born in 1879.
