My 4th Great Grandparents were Denis Devine/Duane and Ellen Shea.  Ellen was from Boolteens and I suspect Denis was from Ballyarkane.  They were married in 1805 and had four children baptized, Michael (my 3rd Great Grandfather) in 1805, Margaret in 1807, Mary in 1808 and another Mary in 1808.  They also had a daughter, Bridget.  Denis, MIchael and Margaret emigrated to Canada.  Mary remained in Kerry, marrying Michael Prendergast and living in Gortaneden then Caherfealane.  Michael and Mary had seven children, James (born 1830), Mary (born 1833), John (born 1836), Michael (born 1838), Helen (born 1842), John (born 1845) and Patrick (born 1848).  Bridget also lived in Gortaneden and remained unmarried until 1842, when she married Martin Sullivan.  Martin and Bridget Sullivan’s children were Martin (1842-), John (1845-1916), Bridget (1849-), Denis (1852-), Michael (1854-), Ellen (1857-) and Daniel (1864-1944).  In addition to Gortaneden, they lived in Ardcanaught and Ballyarkane. John and Daniel emigrated to Australia. Ellen is believed to have died before Denis emigrated to Canada.  One of her brother's was James Shea, who ran the mill in Gortaneden.  I believe she also had a brother, William, who lived in Boolteens.

I haven't found any sign of the Devine/Devane/Duane surname in Castlemaine Parish / Kilgarrylander Civil Parish so I'm not sure any live there now.  I am hoping I am wrong.  I undertook a DNA project involving members of my Devine family and participants descended from other Devines from Kerry and there seemed to be strong DNA toes to descendants of:

Patrick Devine of Ballybeg, Ventry (spouse Johanna O'Donahue).  Their children were Ellen (1879), John (1881), Mary (1882), Abigail (1884), Catherine (1887), Johanna (1889), Margaret (1890).   Parents of Patrick Devine were John Devine and Ellen Flaherty.

Maurice Devine of Glen Minard (spouse Johanna Hurley) (same ancestor indicator J).  Their children were Mary (1850), John (1852), Ellen (1854), Michael (1858), Margaret (1861), Catherine (1864), Johanna (1868) and Timothy (1870).

James Devine (born 1861), married to Mary Garvey.  James’ parents were James Devine and Mary or Margaret Brien.  Children of James Devine and Mary/Margaret Brien included Gobnet (aka Abigail) (1856), Timothy (1857), James (1861) and Denis (1864).  They lived in the Ballyeightragh / Knockavrogeen area.

I am going to be in Kerry in May and am hoping to learn more about my ancestry and meet with extended family.  I would appreciate help in identifying other descendants of Denis and Ellen that are still in Kerry, which includes members of the Sayers family in the Lack/Annascaul area (descendants of Andrew Sayers and Mary Prendergast.  I would also like to make contact with descendants of the other Devine families identified through the DNA project to see if we can collectively learn more about our shared ancestry.  Please reach out to me by replying to this post or emailing me at djdevine6@outlook.com if you think you may be able to assist.
