HI Maura, Ann Dolan was baptised in 1852 on the 12th November to Henry Doland and Sally Morris, her address is Seafield and the parish is Togher. Witnesses were Thomas Callaghan and Jane Johnson. There are two siblings born between 1846 and 1866, Margaret, born January 1847, mother is given as Sally Maurice and witnesses are Pat Carroll and Mary Carroll, again in Togher but in the townland of Martinstown, whille the other sibling was born in 1856 on 1st Dec also in Seafield, the sponsors were Patrick & Mary Johnson, and mother is again Sally Maurice. THere is a note under this entry saying B Hughes and some numbers and Armagh, Louth and Armagh are counties but for religious purposes both are in the diocese of Armagh, nowadays Armagh is in Nothern Ireland.
I see that in 1864 Henry Dolan was a tenant in Port to a Peter Horris (transcription error possible instead of Morris) this site will show you the plot number etc and there is a map which can be manipualted to see where the plot number is then and now, annoying but possible. If you are looking on a modern map Port is Clogherhead or beside it, slightly north of Termonfeckin. http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=nameSearch sticl Dolan and Henry into the search engine and select Louth, only one return.
Henry Dolan married Sarah Morris in Togher in 1846 on the 24th February, not parents names given. Witnesses were Cath Long and John Doyle. You may find the birth on church records.
We now have a little difficulty, there are no Michael Tiernan born in Togher but there are 2 born in St Marys Parish, Meath, now this is actuall south Drogheda, Louth and into Meath, so St Marys is in Louth and Meath but in the diocese of Meath, the church was only built circa 1832 and baptisms date from then, however there are no marriage records pre civil records and church records commence in 1874 for marriages. I am unable to figure which Michael father Peter is the correct one but fabvour the one born in 1839 as closer in age. Here the mother is given as Aley Kelly and the witnesses are Thomas Clarke and Mary Tiernan, while the other is Bridget McNally, year 1836, witnesses are James and Eliza Tearnan (this is the spelling for the dad also) again no address, as no address is given I am assuming they lived in the town. There is a Peter Tiernan living in Crooked Street in the Griffith Valuation about (Meath) this is now Congress Avenue if looking at a map and more built up nowadays.
The area is about 10 miles from Togher at most, there are some sites that may interest you here https://registers.nli.ie/ use the maps to see the parish areas, also a site here that may interest you but will not cover Togher but has church records for the parish of Termonfeckin, http://www.termonfeckinhistory.ie/ and a site on Louth http://www.jbhall.clahs.ie/index.html
You can see the date of parish records available on the Registers site but there are a few that are not there. Revert if any queries.

Maura it is always possible Peter Tiernan married twice and the first Michael died, it was not unusual to name a child twice if one died. Pat

Maura, back again I see a number of children born to a Peter Tiernan in Togher between 1830 and 1860 mainly 1830s and 1840s there are two males and about 6 sisters, paretns are Peter Tiernan and Bridget Murray sometimes transscribed as Murphy, living in Briarhill, Togher. I wonder if the two males a Pat and Peter who was born in 1842 could have been know as Michael to avoid confusion with the father, unfortunately the registers site above does not have these years on it. Often only the first name was transcribed and the baptism record may show a Peter Michael Tiernan, I do not know where the registers are located to see them, I searched on Roots Ireland. I can only see the transcripts, distance wise they are much more likely to have met.
You can see the various townlands on this site https://www.townlands.ie/

Thanks you Pat for this, it's given me new avenue's to pursue. I've been busy since I got your message:
Interestingyou find Henry Dolan in Port. This seems to fit with family connections as I have a note that Michael Tiernan was from Port. I have not been able to find deaths for either him or his wife Ann Dolan. I think i have found some of them on 1901 census. I think this is Henry with two children and Michael Tiernan and Ann Dolan's two surviving children Peter and Sarah. Sarah was my great grandmother and did not marry till 1903. This 1901 census gives a birth year of 1826 for Henry. If this is them Michael and Ann are missing. They may have gone off somewhere but perhaps dead.
You will see on the 1911 Census Sarah and Peter have gone leaving Henry's two children still in Port.
Thanks so much for this. I will have a look at the links you have given me.
Best wishes
Maura

Sarah married William Campbell in 1903 so is not in Port on the 1911 census but I found this suggesting Peter had also moved on but John and Mary are stll there even if ages are wrong.
