Dear Friends at Ireland Reaching Out,

I'm hoping you can help me with something.  In Clonburren Cemetery, gravesites #26-29 are all "Rock" gravesites.  I understand the relationships among the people whose remains are in sites #26-28; site #27 pertains first and foremost to Antony Rock (1770-1848) and his wife Margaret Kenny Rock (1788-1848) (my great-great-great-grandparents) from Cappaleitra;  #26 and #28 are various and sundry descendants of theirs.  But site #29 has me stumped.  It contains the remains of Luke Rock, his wife Mary (nee Kelly), their son William and his wife Mary Ann (nee Shine).  I have been trying to figure out how Luke Rock relates to Antony Rock, since I don't believe his being in gravesite #29 is coincidental. On the basis of his birth date around 1831 or 1832, I suspect Luke might have been a son, but I can't prove it.  Here is the information that I have:

Gravestone reads:  Luke Rock, died March 1902, aged 71 years.  Also his wife Mary Rock, died 26 December 1942, aged 82 yrs.  Their son William, died 18 April 1964.  His wife Mary Ann, died 10 April 1987.

NB:  Civil records are a little different:  Luke Rock's death is given as 27 Feb 1905 at age 73 (Moore Middle).  Mary Rock's death is given as Oct 25 1942 at age 77 (Moore South).

The narrative accompanying the stone description on www.historicgraves.com reads:  Civil Records.  Luke Rock, Dromalga married Mary Kelly, Moore South and came to reside in Moore South.  Their son William Rock married Mary Anne Shine, Drumlosh, Drum daughter of John Shine on the 26th August 1937 in Drum Church.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a civil record of the marriage of Luke Rock and Mary Kelly.  I believe the marriage would have been sometime around 1880, since I have found the civil birth records of 7 children, starting in 1882 and ending in 1896.  The first five children (born 1882-1890) were all born in Falty; the two youngest children (1893 and 1896) were born in Moore South.

That's all the information that I have.  I would really appreciate it if someone could help solve this mystery for me!  Many thanks in advance.

Sorry for the very late response to your message. I located the church marriage record on Roots Ireland and Luke and Mary Kelly were married July 31, 1881 in Moore church. My search of civil records ended up like you-no record. Unfortunately, I think this is a situation where the couple or the priest failed to register the marriage.

I looked at the baptimsal records for the children of Luke and Mary and saw three sons but none names Antony/Anthony which would lead me to believe that Antony was not the father of Luke but that is just a guess based on the records.
