Good afternoon,

I am writing a novel set in late 18th and early 19th century Ireland, and am wondering if anyone can tell me if Maam Cross had that name then (1800), or existed as a town other than a fair gathering in 1801. From the research I have done, I'm thinking not.

Thank you

  • Hi Annette I'm also from WA and spent a brief time around Maam Cross in 1955 with my parents as part of a long overseas trip. We stayed with a family headed by Kate Nee who is mentioned in Hugh Brody's book Inishkillane: Change and Decline in the West of Ireland (Penguin, 1973). I'd be happy to lend you my copy. My email address is mauron@bigpond.net.au Regards John James

  • Yes--Maam Cross is still there as it was in 1800. George Quain.
