I am hoping to find more info on my Mackey family from Kilduff Pallasgrean Co Limerick. My great grandfather, Thomas Mackey, was born in Kilduff in 1853. His parents were Thomas Mackey and Bridget Treacey. He emigrated to Victoria Australia about 1880. Many of his family ended up in Australia.
I have traced the Kilduff Mackeys to Patrick Mackey born 1811 and who I think married Johanna (Josie) Riordan in 1945. They are in Kilduff Pallasgrean, often referred to as Old Pallas, in the 1960s and up till 1974 when their farm was put up for sale. That is where the trail ends.I am hoping some local folk might know if they had children or what happened to them after 1974. I have been looking on irishnewspaperarchives but haven't come across any death notices for either this Patrick or his wife.
My Mackey family and the Kilduff Mackeys, were also related to the Mackeys who lived at Ballybeg in Dromkeen. This family I have traced up till the death of Winifred (Freddie) Mackey nee Madden who died in1973. She was married to Patrick Mackey who died in 1969. I think their property at Ballybeg was bought by a Jim Ryan who died recently in 2020. Again I wonder if they had children.
Any info on these Mackeys would also be much appreciated.

Thanks Eileen for reading through my post and replying. I did actually find these marriage records. These are some of the last bits of info I have come across
I also found Winifred Mackey's death in a newspaper death notice.. She died in July 1973. Her name was shortened to Freddie.
She also had a gravestone erected for her husband Patrick Mackey and his family. He died in Ballybeg in 1969 and was buried in Old Pallas Graveyard.Kathleen Fanning

Patrick Mackey put his property at Kilduff in Pallasgrean up for auction.
See the attached advertisement in The Nationalist 1 Dec 1973.
I don't know if it sold or if it did where he and his wife went to or why they wanted to sell it. He was 62 and she was 67..
This is the last bit of info I have found on them.
Hoping a local volunteer may know about this family.

Hi Kathleen
I believe your great grandfather and my great grandfather were brothers. My father was Con Mackey from Kilduff. I am happy for you to contact me on kafscott@aol.com if you think I can help in any way.
warm regards

Patrick(Paddy)Mackey did indeed marry Jo Reardon...they had one daughter Philomena (Phillis) now in her mid seventies and living somewhere in Tipperary Town. She was transport manager with Tipperary Coop. Paddy's wife got ill with cancer and he sold the farm and retired to look after her.He purchased a house in Hospital. After her death,he remained there until his own departure. Phillip has severed all ties with Pallas.
Paddy himself was a very nice man but with a very short fuse. He seemed to get on better with my Dad and our immediate neighbours than anybody else. He had an intense interest in hurling our (national game)....many the game I attended with him and many the time I thought he would get a heart attack when things were not going to his liking.
He used to breed Kerryblue terriers and won many prizes at national level.
The farm is now owned by the O Connor family.

Thanks for replying, John.
I was told Paddy had a falling out with his siblings and they went to England to live while Paddy stayed in Kilduff. Sad.
I found the Kilduff house on Google. It has been quite beautifully renovated. It is quite a substantial stone house. The Mackeys must have had some money back in the day.
There are a lot of Mackey descendants living in Victoria in Australia and some in NSW.
My great grandfather emigrated to Victoria as did five of his siblings, an aunt and two uncles. Quite possibly more I don't know about.
One went to Cobh Cork and had a pub there. Some of his descendants are in America. Their name was accidentally changed to Mackay.
Do you know if this Mackey family had relations in Newport? I keep getting distant DNA matches with Mackey folk from over there.
Perhaps this is where the Kilduff Mackeys came from a long, long time ago.
Kind regards
