Patrick was not one of the nine children that I located.  However, I found a record which may be of interest on the subscription site Roots Ireland. There was a July 19 1835 baptismal record for a Patrick Farrell. The father is John Farrell and the mother was shown as Catherine Farrell. Witnesses were Denis Mackin and Catherine Farrell. The family lived in Dunbeggan which was the same townland shown on the nine other baptismal records.

I can't prove it because I don't have access to 1835 Colmcille records on the parish register (NLI register starts in 1845) but I believe the transcriber made a mistake and showed Catherine Farrell as the mother and a witness when in fact the mother was Eleanora Mackin. Note other witness was a Mackin.

  • Roger, I have that record of Microfilm page, you were correct it was a mistake by transcriber.

John Farrell & Eleanor  Mackin were parents, witnesses Denis Macken & Catherine Farrell.

  • Jean:

Marriages almost always occurred in the bride's parish. The parishes surrounding Colmkille have marriage records which start close to when the marriage occurred 1834 or earlier. Possibly the marriage occurred right before records are available for that parish which means no record available.

    Scrabby  February 1833

    Dromard February 1835

    Drumlish January 1834

    Clonbroney Janaury 1854

    Colmcille    1833
