Hi, I have ancestors of the name Mackin. I am unsure of their county of origin, although some thought Down being most likely. Both the brothers died in Scotland and on their death certificates their mother was listed as Vardine. It's a name I've never came across before. Has this name ever been heard of in County Down?
This site suggests that the surname may be a variant of Vardon or Verdon. There are a few of them in Co. Down in the 1800s.

None in the county in the 1901 census though.
