Hi

I am looking for any information anyone may have about the Maher family from Coolmoyne please.

Michael Maher (b 1880) was from coolmoyne and married Ellen McCarthy (1890-1963) in 1915. They stayed in the area and had 3 boys: Michael (b 1916 in mobarnane), Thomas (b 1918 in ballyvaden) and Philip Joseph (b 1920 in knockbritt).

Philip Joseph moved to England and married in 1951 but I have no info as to what happened to him between these times.

I dont know what happened to Michael and Thomas, I can't find any death records for the Coolmoyne area so I guess they moved away too. However, I guess at least one of them stayed in Ireland as this is one of the only pieces of word of mouth info I have of the family!

    I have searched for the marriages of Thomas and Michael and sorry no results.
    I also searched deaths, no results.
    I used Ancestry and the IG site, then Family search.
    We are all waiting for the 1925 Census of Ireland, 2026/7 whenever it's online we will all be busy.

    Thanks for your help.

    I have assumed either Thomas or Michael stayed in Ireland as the information I have is that when Philip Joseph passed away in the 1960s there were relatives in Ireland who were involved in greyhound racing that offered to bring his son up in Ireland. This never came to fruition but they must've been quite close family members to have offered to do that.

    Thank you for looking in to the names for me anyway, I really appreciate it. Hopefully something will pop up in time!

  • I looked again.
    I did see a marriage of a Grace Mc Carthy and Michael Maher in 1940, see below.

    Not sure if that is your Michael.

    Well, this could be an interesting one to look in to! There's a lot of coincidences in there if it's not him...

    With the witnesses being Thomas and Mary maher there also could be a potential of that being his brother and his wife?
