Richard MAHON died 17 Dec. 1882 in Coolagh; Roman Catholic Parish of Mullagh, Civil Parish of Abbeygormachan.  Bridget MAHON died 23 Nov. 1893 in same Parish.

How can I determine if they were married and if Bridget MAHON's maiden name was KENNEY ?

Known children would include: (daughters) Bridget, b. 1838, Mary, b. 25 Dec 1845, Sabina, b. Mar. 1846, (Sons) Michael, b. 1858 and James, b. 31 Mar. 1855.  All known children emmigrated to the USA. None were married or died in Ireland.

The Richard MAHON I refer to here may have been the same person listed on the Griffith's Valuation.  It is not known if he is my great great grandfather or if he is the same one listed above.  The data referenced herein comes from the "Rootsweb" site and appears to offer some promise as being that of my family.  Bridget's maiden name will yield the telling clue.

Thank you and God bless.

    Hello Bernard,
I think that perhaps the only way for you to determine Bridget Mahon’s maiden name would be if it was recorded on the children’s baptisimal records, as their births are before the start of civil registration (1864).

Most Catholic records are held locally - One site which might be of use is - http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/ - where you can ‘browse’ an overview of available records per county. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for possible assistance.

Also East Galway Family History Society (00353-90-9749309) could have the information you seek, but please note there would be a charge for their services.

    Kind regards Michael.
