I am not sure if any civil parish I should focus on.

Researching my great grandparents Patrick Manning and Anne Dillane, the parents of my maternal grandfather William Manning, DOB 28 Mar 1905, Death 1983 Massachusetts, USA.  William’s birth registration states Briscaugh, which I presume is Briskagh.  All of his siblings birth registrations reflect Ballyan.  The children’s birth records the mother reported with her mark reflect her name as Hanorah.  The records Patrick the father reported with his mark reflect her name as Anne.

To add to my confusion the 1901 and 1911 census reflects Ballyane.  Great grandfather Patrick’s brother James family is in Briskagh in both the 1901 and 1911 census.  If i researched correctly Ballyane and Briskagh are neighboring townlands.

My great grandmother Anne (Hanorah) Dillane is who I need the most help with right now, finding her birth or baptism, but everything helps.

My great grandparents Patrick Manning and Anne Dillane civil marriage registration.  It appears Patrick residence is Ballyane(?) and Anne residence Waterpark(?).  I don’t have the church record.

My family likely still have cousins in Limerick.  My grandparents visited a couple of William’s siblings in Limerick in the 1970s.

  • Bill,

At the time of her marriage, Honora Dillane was living in Waterpark House, Shanagolden, Co. Limerick, working as a servant.  Limerick borders on Co. Kerry, and a servant working in Shanagolden could have come from Kerry.

On rootsireland, I found a transcription of the baptism of an Honora Dillane, bap. 18 Apr. 1874 in the RC parish of Duagh, Co. Kerry. Her parents were EDMUND and Mary Dillane. Could this be your ancestor?

I have seen the following variations on the name Hanora: Honora, Nora, Hannah, Anne, Annie.

    I hope this is helpful.

  • Patricia,  thank you.  That is part of the challenge of Ireland ancestry I guess.

I found a Honora Dillane birth registered in Newcastle, Limerick 15 April 1871 to Edward Dillane and Honora Doody.

I also noticed one of the marriage witnesses was a Mary Dillane which I wasn't able to connect yet as a possible sister, near relative.  Not being able to see her children's baptisms for more clues also a challenge.  Maybe other Dillane family as sponsors.

I think you understand most of us use various sources.  I was tracing the same trail as you to Waterpark house, since I had a hard time identifying her residence Waterpark and then searching for references to Waterpark.

One suggestion from Irish Genealogy site was Waterpark Townland, Limerick.  Not sure of the protocol of the time.  Whether she would register her place of employment as her residence or how I could even identify that?  They also pointed out the custom of the time of marrying in the brides home parish.

None of this solves the riddle, but helps me talk through the research you are graciously helping me with.

I am still early in my ancestry travels and Ireland XO was very helpful with my paternal Kilkenny ancestors, so great hopes for my maternal Limerick ancestors and when I get around to it my maternal Cork ancestors (Murphy/McCarthy) lol.

Again I appreciate all the help you provide.
