After an extensive search of the Tasmanian (Australia) archives I have failed to find any date of arrival of the Margaret Connors who at the age of 23 "married" my great great grandfather a convict in about 1854. Her death certificate names Clare, Ireland as her place of birth. A search of the girls from Clare workhouses raises the possibility that she may have been either Margaret Connor from the Scarriff who sailed to Van Diemens Land in 1851 on the Calcutta or Margaret O'Connors from the Ennostymon workhouse who saied on the Beulah in 1851. I am hoping someone might be able to narrow down my search.

There is a record on www.findmypast.ie of a "Margaret Connors"aged 40 years having sailed on the Duke of Cornwall - July 1st 1851 with two children - Thomas aged 10 years and Patrick aged 7 years. She was convicted in County Clare.
A Margaret Connors, also from County Clare, aged 29 years sailed on the JNO WM DARE?. Convicted in County Clare
Address for both women was Gangegorman Female Prison, Dublin.

Thanks for that. The permission to marry for William Dobinson states that she is free.
Will let you know if I find her.

Thanks
Both women mentioned in your post are convicts.
I think I have found our Margaret Connors. Her name is on the list of of passengers on the 'Calcutta' that left Plymouth for VDL (Tasmania) in 1851. She is 20 years old ndischarge list no other information is written down. She is one of the girls from the Scarriff (Clare library). The Calcutta arrived in VDL on in November 1851. Her name on the arrival list is Connor however her name on the discharge list (employement list) is O'Connors with a stroke through the O. She is employed by H. M. Cockrill from New Norfold, Tasmania. Henry Dobinson (convict) arrives in December 1852 and is sent to New Norfolk. I am still going through over 700 pages of notes on the employment of convicts - unfortunately several pages have been removed. I am still open minded about my findings but a search of the Tasmanian records fail to record the marriage of Margaret Connor - Henry had Permission to Marry dated 1855 - backdated to 1853.

I believe we may be related and I may be able to help you. My mother is Sally Connors, and her mother married her father making her a Connors. It is a long line of criminal behaviour, I am working my way back up the line through my mother and her father, whilst you are working your way down. I believe my Grandfather was James but that could be wrong. He has died.
