Hello, I am search for information about my 3rd Great Grandmother Margaret Mahoney born around June 1836. I think I found her as a servant at the age of 15 years old in a 1851 Census record of March 30 in England (looks like a house register), then a passenger list from England to Port of New York on a ship named Ralph. She married a John Welch just shy of her 18th birthday in Ohio on Jan 7, 1854. I am not sure who her partents are or if she siblings.
In doing some research I might have found her parents and siblings. Looks like a Margaret was born to a James Mahoney and a Ellen Higgins, with siblings Mary, Catherine, Johanna and a Bridget. This Margaret was born int the parish of Cloyne. Like I said I am not sure this is my 3rd Great Grandmother. Would love some help if anyone could help me!

Tammy:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
There are 65 Margaret Mahoney baptismal records from 1831-1841 on the subscription site Roots Ireland and these records would be for the Diocese of Cloyne. There would likely be another 65+ records in the Diocese of Cork and Ross for the same time period and those records can be found on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie So you can see, parents names are crucial in confirming a baptismal record.
If I read your note correctly, you found the 1836 record on some site. Do you have other evidence (death record etc.) that shows James Mahoney and Ellen Higgins as her parents?
Have you considered DNA testing?

Hello Roger,
I had a fellow in Ireland do a one day search for me. I will attach his report. This is where I got the possible parents name.
I have done Ancestry DNA and 23 and me DNA test. I have my DNA uploaded into: My Heritage, Family Tree DNA and GedMatch.

Hi Tammy!
Very good report and I follow his analysis but it all depends on the accuracy of the June 24th 1836 record in the family bible. Many emigrants modified their year of birth when they arrived in the new country and sometimes they also changed the month and day. In your case, the baptism is two weeks before the date in the Bible. As I indicated in my first comment, I would look for other evidence. Hopefully, she lived until 1900 or later and a death record might be available. Did you find any evidence of James Mahoney and his wife Ellen in England in the 1851 census?
Since you tested with two companies and also have your data on Gedmatch, hopefully some matches might have Mahoney connections and you can mutually try to find a common ancestor which would confirm the Margaret in Cloyne. I also use a free tool called DNA Painter www.dnapainter.com which allows you to "paint" which chromosomes you and your match connect.
All the best!
Roger
