  • Lois,

This site shows you where the surname was most common in Ireland in the mid 1800s. It was found all over the country though there were perhaps more in Ulster. If they did originate in Donegal then the bad news is there are almost no RC church records for that county for the late 1700s and early 1800s. Tracing them will be difficult if not impossible.

Does Patrick's death certificate perhaps contain his father's name?

  • Thank you for replying..I'm trying now to see if I can get Patrick's death certificate..his place of death now directed me to possible locating. Patrick has been a real mystery

as to where buried,also..one volunteer walked the burial grounds mentioned in his obituary and nothing! so thought when his wife died almost 20 yrs later, they removed

him to be with her at the family cemetery??...the ironic part is Patrick and son Thomas owned a funeral home in another  county!  So with that, as am now checking on Patricks

siblings in another state to see if their DC's come up with anything..but again before DC's  official....one did say county donegal, the rest Ireland!

Again thanks for the info you provided>>>, is there a general Northern Ireland and/or general Ireland message board I can leave a message??

John Grenham's picture on Shannon's in Ireland~~ shocking!!  I don't feel we're the popular ones?  I remember well walking along the Shannon River while in Ireland

    many years ago...beautiful!  Lois

  • Lois,

You ask about general boards. It is possible to post a message without selecting any parish or county. That way you can cover the whole island.
