I am attaching the headstone for my 4th Great Grandmother, Maria (Mary) maiden name unknown. Birth ABT 1796 • Ireland; Death 4 JAN 1876 • Louisville, Jefferson, Kentucky, USA. The inscription includes the Parish and County where she was born, however, I cannot decipher it. Can anyone help?
She married Patrick O'Shaughnessy. Her daughters Blanche and Kate were born in Ireland and daughters Johanna and Anna were born in New York, NY. They came to the US between 1834 - 1837. Patrick died about 1849 soon after the birth of their last child and Maria (Mary) moved the girls to Louisville, Kentucky where they lived the rest of their lives.
Many thanks for any assistance in identifying Maria's place of birth in Ireland. Hopefully, it will provide clues to discover more about her and Patrick's life in Ireland before they moved to the US.

Theresa,
Patricia is correct in her identification. The parish of Spiddal does not have any records prior to 1861.
The village of Spiddal was in the parish of Moycullen in that period and the Western side in the parish of Killannin, Moycullen has records from 1786 and Killannin has none prior to 1875, assuming she was Roman Catholic. Rahoon parish is also a possibility, near Galway city.
It is also likely she had moved from Spiddal and had met her husband in Galway, as the name Shaughnessy is more common in East Galway.
I attach records of names in the area in early 1850. They may jog a memory.
Best Wishes,
McCoy
