Hi,
I understand that it was common practice for a bride and groom to marry in the bride's home town. Was this always the case in 1838? I have ancestors (I think I have the correct ones) where the bride was from Aughrim, Roscommon, but the marriage record for them is Kilronan; and then they also had their six children in Knockadryan, Kilronan. Perhaps I have the incorrect bride in this case. Any advice is appreciated.

It was normal to marry in the bride's parish but not a 100% rule. No way to know if this was an arranged marriage although the two areas were a good deal apart and it was decided that the marriage would be held in Kilronan. Maybe the bride from Aughrim had relatives in Kilronan. There is no way to know. Aughrim has marriages reocrd back before 1838 so if your Aughrim person was married in Aughrim, a record should be there.
