I need some help deciphering the marriage record for my 3 x great grandparents Patrick Dwyer and Catherine Cummins, which I found in the Catholic Parish Registers.
Marriage date is 31 January 1831.
Cannot quite read the name of the priest and the witnesses.
Can't find this record in Roots Ireland or Irish Genealogy.ie either.
Thanks and regards,
Stephen

Stephen:
Many of the parishes of Cashel and Emly are not included on Roots Ireland. I think at some point, the then bishop of the diocese did not approve including the records of his parishes on Roots Ireland. www.irishgenealogy.ie would not have the records for Tipperary. Full civil registration started in 1864. Church records on the site are limited to Co. Kerry, part of Co. Cork (Diocese of Cork and Ross only), Dublin city and I believe Co. Carlow.
I looked at the register entry and I belive there are three witnesses. They all appear to be male. The first is McDaniel (last name not readabkle at least to me), Dennis Quinlan and Dennis Dwyer. The location for the couple is Clonoulty. Clonoulty is the next parish to the northwest from Boherlahan Dualla. My guess is that Patrick Dwyer was from Clonoulty but the marriage was held in the bride's parish.

I had a look at the marriage of your Patrick Dwyer & Catherine Cummins and believe it reads:
"31 January 1831 Patt Dwyer & Cath Cummins PB [Parish Boherlahan] were joined in marriage by the Rev. Wm. Kirwin in presence of John Daniel, Nodstown, Denis Quinlan and Denis Dwyer, Clonulty"
Rev. Kirwin often used short forms for names as in John [Jn with the o above] eg. Thomas sometimes written Tho with 's' above; Michael would be Mich with the 'l' above and so on.
Dwyer & Cummins were known to each other. Our Daniel Dwyer & Mary Hacket who married 1837 was witnessed by Patrick Dwyer. When their son Michael Dwyer was born in 1838 a Michael Cummins was a sponsor.
Hope this helps. Marilyn Dwyer
