Ladies and Gentlemen:
I'm relatively new to searching my family tree. In using Ancestry.com and its hints, I came across something that may or may not apply to my maternal second great-grandfather and don't now what approach to take to ascertain if it IS in fact him. Here's what I know so far about him:
Name: Martin Fallon
Birth: abt. 1802 - Ballinasloe, Galway, Ireland
Death: 26 Feb 1862 - Ballinasloe, Galway, Ireland
The hint on Ancestry.com has a Martin Fallon born abt. 1803 convicted on 31 Mar 1827 in Tipperary. He was sent on the vessel Eliza to Sydney Cove, Australia and arrived on 8 Nov 1827, He received his Certificate of Freedom on 2 Apr 1835.
His spouse was Mary Norton. I have no date of birth or death for her. Their daughter, Catherine Fallon, was born 23 Mar 1861 and died 3 Dec 1924.
Any advice you can give me would be appreciated. God bless you,

Ancestry hints are not always on target and you have a name that is relatively common. You indicate that you are second generation so your grandparent (at least one) came from Ireland. What do you know about your Fallon line and then possibly we can try to assist you with the the Martin Fallon sent to Australia. Did you test your DNA with Ancestry?

Thank you for your prompt reply. It's good for me to know that Martin is a common first name in Ireland for my research--as it's not common in the USA.
All of my grandparents are from Ireland and came to the USA in the 1920s. My DNA test indicated Ireland = 94% and Scotland = 6% (I chose not to be matched). The Scottish percentage of my heritage would be from my maternal grandfather, Michael Glynn, who is Catherine Fallon's son. I'm hoping in September that the Irish Cultural Center in Phoenix will finally reopen. The site has a genealogy library and computers where one can access Roots Ireland. I think that database would be my best bet for researching the Fallon line as the only verified info I have pertains to Catherine's birth, death, and census info.

I have access to Roots Ireland. Was Catherine born in Australia or Ireland. Who were her parents? What country did she marry in?
