Hi everyone

I’m looking for a birth record for my GGGrandfather Martin Mannix, born circa 1830, no idea where.  He lists his parents as John, a tallow Chandler, and Anne.

We have been unable to find any record for him until his marriage to Mary Rice in Liverpool 1857.

I found a birth record for a Barth Mannix and a DL Mannix, born circa 1830 in Castleisland, to Anne King and John Mannix.

Just wondering if anyone can tell me anything else about this family, and whether they had any other children?

Many thanks in advance xx

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I checked on two sites and the only baptismal records available for children of John Mannix and Anne King were the two you mentioned: Daniel in 1832 and Bartholomew in 1835. My guess is that John Mannix moved around becuse of his occupation and Martin was baptized in a parish that does not have records back to 1830. I also did not locate the marriage record for that couple.

You may want to add Martin Mannix to our XO Chronicles file https://irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-database

  • Thanks Roger, I've done that, hope I've done it right?

Martin Mannix has been a mystery for the nearly 30 years my Dad was researching him (prior to his death), so I have now taken up the mantle.  A lovely lady, on an Irish geneology facebook page, suggested I try Irelandxo, and anything is worth a try.

I feel he was probably born in Cork, so will keep looking.

  • I have posted a lot of information about the Mannixs from Castleisland on familysearch.com. Most of my information is for generations after the 1830; however, a lot of the first names are repeated.
