Hello from Canada, My great-grandmother was a McMunn from the Dromore, Sligo area of Ireland. Her name was Mary Frances McMunn and she later shortened it to Munns.
She was born in 1888 in Ireland and died in Windsor, On Canada in 1954. She married William Smith of Sheffield, England in Quebec, Canada. They had 4 daughters. Janet (my grandmother), Muriel, Heddy and Laura. Heddy passed away at the age of 16 from being hit by a vehicle.
I have been looking for information on the history of her family and where in Ireland they actually lived and if they were originally from Scotland. Any information or contact you have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much,

Place of birth is Sligo for William but the family might have come from Scotland at some time in the past. MacLysaght’s “The Surnames of Ireland” says MacMunn is a Scottish name found in Donegal. Plus the family being Church of Ireland could also indicate a settler background.
The Mc & O prefixes to Irish names are detachable and it’s common to find them used and then omitted at whim, as occurs here.
