Would love to know more about my GG GM Mary McDonough who was born in Tulla 1832 father was John and Mother Mary.  She was a catholic so I know she would have been babtised. She arrived in Australia about 1848 as an orphan.  Hoping that someone may be able to confirm that this information is correct and what mums maiden name is.  Thanks  Di

  • Dear Di:

    Many thanks for your query.

I will check out the above information in our local parish register in the next week or so and get back to you.Hopefully there will be a maiden name for her mother and a townland to go with it.

Many thanks again and please join the Tulla page if you have not already done so.

    Kind regards,

    Jane.

  • Dear Di:

I have had a look in the Tulla baptismal register and I cannot find any mention of a Mary McDonough.

It is possible that she was born in another parish near Tulla.  If you have any questions, please let me know.  I looked at the Tithe Applotment Books and Griffith's Valuation through the Clare County Library website, and I note that there were McDonoughs in Feakle.

You can access baptismal records for both parishes through the Clare County Library website at www.clarecountylibrary.ie/genealogy.  If you scroll down to the right under Donated Material:  click on the Births,Marriages, link,

The best of luck with your research.

    Kind regards,

    Jane

  • Dear DI:

    I just came across this:

McDonough Mary Patrick Bridget Mcmahon Michael McMahon Mary McMahon Ballyvogel   April 1840

This is from the Clare County Library website.  It is under donated material (right hand side) and in the Births,Baptisms, Marriages tab.  It was in the O'Callaghan's Mills Parish records that were very generously transcribed by Ernene Smedley.  Take a look at the page and see if this is any good to you.  I know that the date is off, but some of the information appears to match up with your own.

The Clare County Library website is www.clarecountylibrary.ie/genealogy.

    Kind regards,

    jane.
