Hello! I am looking for information about my great-great-grandmother, Mary O'Dea. She was born in County Clare on May 20, 1842, and immigrated to the United States. Her parents were Daniel O'Dea and Mary (?). She was married to Matthew McCoy on April 22, 1867, in Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Columbus, Ohio.

Thank you!

I searched the subscription site FindMyPast and the closest Mary O'Dea baptismal record to 1842 is a baptism on April 10 1836 in the Quin RC parish with father Daniel O'Dea but the mother was Bridget Flynn.

I searched for ossible siblings and the only lead I located was a May 25 1843 baptismal record for a Betty O'Dea with father Daniel and mother Mary Bolan. The RC parish was Sixmilebridge which is not far from Shannon Airport.

    Have you considered DNA testing?

  • Kristina,

I attach records in relation to Mary O'Dea and Matthew McCoy.

The 1860 Franklin census records a Matthew McCoy, aged 17 years and a Barney McCoy. Both born in Ireland. There is also a John Diggins, also born in Ireland. It is likely that Barney and Matthew were brothers?

The Griffith Valuations for a Daniel O'Dea records the name in various parts of County Clare.

Do you have any idea of what part Mary O'Dea was from?

    Regards,

    McCoy
