My ancestor was Mary Shea, born about 1832. I don't know when she immigrated to the US but ended up in Urbana, OH and married David Powers in 1855. She died in 1918 in Dayton, OH and is buried in Urbana, OH. She possibly had a brother named Martin who also immigrated to the US and lived and died in Urbana, OH.

Many of the DNA matches I have on Ancestry are showing their Shea family's to be from Cahersiveen, Ireland. I do know that Mary was from County Kerry, Ireland but specifically where I have no idea.

Thanks for any help.

  • Mary Jo:

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

You really need to have Mary's parents names to determine if a baptismal record exists since the name is very common in Co. Kerry. If Mary was from Cahirciveen RC parish then records will not be available since baptismal records start in 1846 for that parish.  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0658

  • Thank you. Unfortunately, I have no idea who Mary's parents were, she is a brick wall. I knew this was a long shot but I thought I'd try it anyway.
