Hello
Searching for any information for Mathew Phibbs (Philip) McDermott, born c1840 . He immigrated to the north of England and is shown on the 1891/1901 census as living in Sunderland. He married Elizabeth Donnison in 1884. It is possible he was married before. Children:John Joseph,Mary Ann, Elizabeth,Eleanor, Margaret Florence and Susannah. Elizabeth is shown as a widow in the 1911 census and a possible date of death is 1903.
Any information would be most appreciated.
Thankyou
Genie

Genie:
Without having the parents names for Mathew, it will be very difficult to find a possible baptismal record for him.
The subscription site Roots Ireland has a record in 1836 in Co. Meath and another in 1836 in Co. Sligo and another in 1841 in Co. Cavan, Many RC parishes do not have baptismal records back to 1840 so it is possible that Mathew was baptized in one of those parishes.
Have you considered a general DNA test? You may get leads from matches.

Thank you for your response.
Will consider the DNA route after further research. At the moment I cannot find any information prior to 1891 apart from the marriage in 1884.
Another possible marriage in 1862 to an Elizabeth Murphy, again in Sunderland, is another possibility but as I can’t find them in 1871 or 1881 I’m hoping they might have returned to Ireland for a time hence the post. Will update the post if anything else comes to light.
