I need help. I'm trying to confirm that the Thomas McCaffrey I call my 2nd great grandfather is the Thomas from Tempo. His wife was Annie. I have Irish records of children Philip, Bridget, Thomas and Francis. My great grandmother, Catherine also says her father was Thomas, but I found no Irish records of her birth to him. Other children/nephews/neices may have been Ellen, John, Bernard and Patrick. The children birth years are 1865-1890. I can't tell if all these folks are from one family unit, nor do I know the parents of Thomas ans Annie.
Thanx, Paul

Hello again!
First, for general information and further research, www.irishgenealogy.ie is a free Irish government site which has civil birth record images from 1864-1916. Marriage records are available from 1870-1941 and deaths from 1878-1966. Earlier marriage and death records will be added in the near future.
The only Catherine McCaffery/McCaffrey civil birth record I located on Roots Ireland was in 1868. The father was Thomas but the mother was Marianne McDonagh. She was in Ballyreagh townland while records for the other children you mentioned were in Letterbailey townland and the mother was Anne McCaffrey/McCaffery. By the way, I think Anne' maiden name was also McCaffery/McCaffrey
What was the name of Catherine's mother?
Roger McDonnell

Thanx for the recommendation for www.irishgenealogy.ie, Roger. I've started to look at it and have found some of the children. I haven't searched for all yet.
I see the Marianne McDonagh relationship and also the Ann McCaffrey/McCaffrey probability.
Regarding your question about Catherine's mother, that would be the Annie, wife of the Thomas, above.
Do you know how to search the irishgenealogy site so as to find all the children of Thomas and Annie?
Many thanx, Paul

McCaffrey/McCaffery was a common surname in Fermanagh. I did a search from 1865-1890 and there were 232 McCaffrey/McCaffery birth records registered in the Enniskillen registration district. However, if you know the first names, you can reduce the number of records to review. There is no other way to pinpoint the records you need. Starting sometime after 1900 the mother's surname is shown as part of the index record but that is no consolation for you.
