I seek information please about some McCarthys (or McCarty) from the Cork area. Jeremiah (Jerry) McCarthy (1836-1903) was born in Kinsale, County Cork. His father also was called Jeremiah (1786-1850) and I think his mother’s name was Mary Hogan (born about 1791). Young Jerry McCarthy left Ireland eventually for Burlington, Vermont, USA, sometime in the late 1840s while still a child. He may have travelled with parents or one of his McCarthy brothers named Francis (1820-1900), Patrick (1823-1903), or David (1834-1909) or with one of his McCarthy sisters Johanna (1825-1882) or Nancy (1826-1907). Some of Jerry’s siblings settled in the Nashua, New Hampshire, USA area. Jerry married Alice Fitzgerald (1834-1911) in 1860 in Vermont. Alice left Ireland sometime between 1845 and 1855. Jerry and Alice had 5 children named John (1860-1871), Frank (1863-1916), Annie (1866-1951), Mary (1868-1948), and Nellie (1871-1953). Annie, my grandmother, married a man named Edward O’Brien in 1890. I would like to learn more about the lives of these McCarthys in Ireland, why they left, and if any relatives remain in Ireland. Thanks for your help. Mike O'Brien.

Hello again Mike!
www.irishgenealogy.ie is a free Irish government site which has church records for the Diocese of Cork and Ross including Kinsale. The records for Kinsale go back to 1805. I did some searches and could not find a record for Jeremiah and I also searched for David and Francis since those names are less common. I can't find any records with a mother's surname of Hogan. the closest record I could find was an 1819 record for a Francis in Kinsale but the parents names do not match your info. Maybe the family attended a church where records start later.
Have you considered DNA testing?

Mike,
I'm also searching for McCarthys (McCartys) most likely from Cork. My ggg grandfather was Denis McCarthy b. ~ 1813. Married Mary Frances (Fanny) Buttimer, Macroom, CORK, b. ~ 1810. Daugther Mary was born in Ireland about 1836 so I estimate they were married 1-3 years prior. Second daughter was born in NY about 1838 so there's my immigration window. Denis &
Fanny settled in Rome, NY area. I believe Fanny's parents were Andrew Buttimer and Catherine Buckley of Macroom. I've had no luck tracing Denis as McCarthy/McCarty is such a common name in Ireland as is Denis. If Irish naming patterns come into play, here's the birth order of Denis and Fanny's children:
Mary b. 1836 - Ireland
Margaret b. 1838
Elizabeth b. 1839
Frances Jane b. 1841
Angeline b. 1843
Sarah b. 1844
John W. b. 1847
Ellen b. 1850
Thomas b. 1856
