Researching Pactrick McCormac/k and wife Nancy Maher, Son John McCormac born approx 1843 Tipperary. Australian records indicates that he sailed to Australia - Port Adelaide abour 1858 -1860 as a single man and with sister Ellen McCormac/k. Parents born approx 1820. John settled in South Australia in a place called Kapunda and raised seven children. My husband is a great grandson of John McCormac and we know nothing of his parents Patrick and Nancy McCormac/k. Would greatly appreciate any information regarding family living in Tipperary. John died in a place called Mildura-Victoria-Australia about 1903.  His death notice states his father is Patrick McCormac/k and mother Nancy Maher.

  • Hello Archiebald,

I did a quick search of www.rootsireland.ie and found a baptismal record for John McCormack born 1839 - 1841 , with father's name Patrick McCormack and mother surname Maher (I dont know what the name Nancy would be short for)  in the parish of Holycross, in Co. Tipperary.

I think it would be worth viewing this record to glean any more info from it.  It would cost you about €5 but I feel it would be worth it.

Also go to  the site www.askaboutireland.ie and look at the Griffith valuations

Hope this is of some help to you,

    Regards,

  • Helen,

The rootsireland website works on credit card, so when you input your details it will automatically convert your australian dollars to pounds.  It's a not for profit organisation so they try to keep costs down.  I think its great that it's pay per view, you don't have to lash out a small fortune for membership.

Best of luck in your search,

    Regards,

    Anne
