Looking for any information on Helen McCormick, born 1805 in County Down or possibly County Cork who married Michael or Neil Harrigan. Helen's father was James McCormick. She had 7 children, 6 born in Ireland......Patrick, Michael, Daniel, Hugh, Ellen, and James. A 7th son John was born in Canada. Thank-you. Maureen

Hi Maureen,
There are a couple of sites which may be of use to you..
http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/introduction-to-genealogy/
http://www.nli.ie/en/parish-register.aspx
You could also try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) if you haven't already for your relatives. Microfilm copies of the books for all of Ireland are available at the National Archives of Ireland (NAI) http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/tithe-applotment-books-and-the-primary-griffith-valuation/ or the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS) https://familysearch.org/.
Also www.failteromhat.com Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at.
Do you know much about their emigration? Dates, the reason why they left, etc.? Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which port they arrived at (e.g. Liverpool, Castle Garden etc...), this could be a good place to find more information, and perhaps even find out an exact place of origin. Some sites worth checking include: http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/022/022-908-e.html
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/immigrants.htm
http://freepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mdtmgug/education/immigration.htm
I wish you the best of luck in your search.
Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.
Kind regards,
