Harry D. McCoy was b. @ 1879 in Ireland. He may have went to Canada before entering the States. He probably left Ireland in the late 1890's or early1900's. He is found in the 1905 census for Montevideo, Chippewa, Minnesota. It says he had been in Minnesota for four years. His wife Elizabeth Collins was b. 31 Aug. 1885 in Sparta, Chippewa, Minnesota. They md. 22 Jun 1904 in Montevideo. Their son Donald James was b. 18 Aug 1905 in Montevideo. Elizabeth's family were from Westmeath, Renfrew, Ontario, Canada and Dublin, Ireland. When Donald was a couple years old Harry D. abandoned his wife and child. There are several stories as to why but I have been unable to prove or disprove either of them. We have several photos of Harry D. one of them with him in front a flour mill Whitman Bro.'s in Minn. I have been unable to find any further records for Harry D. or his ancestors. Presumably he was the only Family member to leave Ireland.

  • Hi Cyn,

That's a very clever user name!

I'm a bit 'wild about Harry' as I haven't been able to find him anywhere!

As you can see, the results of the rootsireland births/baptisms search found 3 matches - 2 of which are Helens so Hubert might be your man. However, I notice that a couple of ancestry public member trees had his birthplace as Northern Ireland though there wasno source given for this. Mayo is not Northern Ireland and I don't know if you were called Hubert whether you would call yourself Harry but I think I might!

I'm wondering whether the marriage certificate might have his parents' names on it to give us some clues?
