Hi fellow listers,
I am looking for the fmaily of my gr gr grandfather - Thomas Ernest McEvoy - who was born c1836
Thomas Ernest McEvoy was born in Dunlavin County Wicklow Ireland. He was the son of David McEvoy and Mary Hayden.
At the age of 20 years he was recommended for the Royal Irish Constabulary by local landowner Edward Pennefeather Esq. of Rathsallagh. His appointment commenced on the 1st December 1853. On the 25th March 1854, Thomas was assigned to County Antrim.
I beleieve that some of his fmaily may have remained in Wicklow. Upon Thomas' death in 1909 in Victoria, Australia; he left money to his siblings in Wicklow, Ireland - one hundred pounds each - David, Mary, Ellen & Julia.
Does anyone have records/info of this family & the remaining silbings in 1909?
I have included a photo of Thomas McEvoy in later life in case someone recognises familial similarities.
Thanks.

A transcription on RootsIreland shows a Thomas McEvoy’s baptism on 31 July 1831. Baptized in Catholic parish of Dunlavin in Co. Wicklow. Parents: David McEvoy, MARGARET.** Sponsors: James Healy, Ellen Ryan.
**The original record (https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633390#page/82/mode/1up) is so faint that it’s possible it actually says Mary, not Margaret.
There is also a Mary McEvoy, born to David and MARY, baptized 16 May 1830 in parish of Dunlavin. Sponsors: Dom’k Byron, Mary Nolan.
Also, have a look at the 1901 and 1911 Irish censuses (free online) to see if you can find his siblings.
Goodluck.

Jane:
I found a few leads for Julia and David.
There was a Julia McEvoy who married Edward Kelly from Rathsallagh at the Dunlavin RC church on October 12 1862. Julia was from Ballycagh. Father for Julia shown as David. Father for Edward was Peter. Mother of Julia was listed as Margaretta (not Mary). Mother of Edward was Ellena.
1901 census for Edward Kelly family http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Wicklow/Rathsallagh/Ra…
1911 census http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Wicklow/Rathsallagh/Ra…
See fourth record for possible death record for David McEvoy mentioned in the will.

Thank you so much Roger and Patricia!!
Is it just me, or are more Irish recordsbecoming available online latey? I have searched on and off for years fo rirish records, but am finidng more and more lately.
I wil have a look at these records. They look like very possible matches.
Are there any RIC records available specificaly about the RIC in Dunlavin? I heard somewhere that RIC members were not stationed at their home villages due to risk of reprisal. Is this true? Thomas wa stationed in Antrim - he married in Portglenone.
I guess it is possible that the mother was Margaret & not Mary.
again....thank you for your assistance. Did you find the records in the orgiginal transcript or a search engine?
Kind Regards,

Jane:
Yes, more and more Irish records are being added online. Just today, Roots Ireland added over 7500 baptismal records for a parish in Co. Kerry.
RIC constables were not stationed in their home county to prevent conflict of interest. If an unmarried constable, married a local girl close to his barrack, after the wedding, he was reassinged to another post in a different county.
The marriage record I located in 1862 was a transcript but the actual record on the parish register is at this link.
