Hello!

I am researching my Grandfather/Grandmother in Scotland and back to Northern Ireland and have reached a stone wall. I hope someone out there can assist with information/direction/contacts.

John McFaulds born 24/Dec/1896 in Bellshill, Scotland.  No information past that date form either Ireland or Scotland.

Anne Jane McFalls(nee Lavery) is from Mossend with her father Henry Lavery from Ballandary Bridge, Tyrone Northern Ireland and mother Mary Ellen Mallon who were married 11/Nov/1882 at Cookstown, Tyrone, N.I.

I am hopeful that someone can provide additional information/direction/contacts for the McFaulds/Lavery/Mallon in Scotland and Ireland. Would love to find additional family.

Thank you all in advance.  Douglas J McFalls

  • There's a promising marriage match on the ScotlandsPeople pay-website for John and Anne which I believe is worth checking out - Scottish marriage certs include lots of detail, including names of the parents.  You will need to purchase a few credits to view the details.

    Groom : John MCFALL
    Bride : Anne Lavery
    Year : 1917
    Ref. 625/3 11
    Reg. District : Bellshill

ScotlandsPeople also have a good possible match in Statutory Birth records for John's birth in 1896 which should inlude his parents names, and they also have the census returns which are worth checking as a next step...e.g. for his parents' placees of birth etc

  • For reference - here's a link to the likely marriage of Henry and Mary on IrishGenealogy website - they have the bride's surname as 'Nealon'.. the entry is not very legible. The BMD index on FamilySearch etc shows her surname as Mallon - see index entry for the bride, and for the groom.both with references matching the page number shown on the image on IrishGenealogy.

The marriage took place .in the Roman Catholic Chapel at Cookstown on the 11th November 1882, the groom is noted as full age, a widower with occupation of Flax ??, residence Cookstown, his father Philip was a labourer now deceased. The bride is shown as 18 years old, residence also Cookstown, with father Daniel a labourer noted as alive.
