Hello!

My 2nd Great Grandparents were Thomas and Bridget (Neagle) McGuire from Ballyvorda and Loughloon. They married in 1864 (fortunately!) and had 8 children, my great grandmother Mary being the second born in 1867. We’ve found records on her siblings, most of whom stayed in Ireland but did not marry or have children. Mary, sister Annie (married Patrick Kelly, son of Felix Kelly and Ellen Guerin, also from the same area) and brother Patrick all emigrated to the US, married and had several children.

Both Thomas and Bridget were listed as ‘Servants’ in Loughloon on their marriage record. We’re struggling to find records on their parents or identify their siblings in that general area. Any suggestions to help us in our research?

I will be visiting Ireland in September (2024) and I’m so looking forward to seeing where all of our Irish ancestors lived!

Thank you!

Lauren

  • Hi Lauren, Parish records for Liscannor , County Clare are available on line and there are lots of Neagles listed there. they go back further than 1864 so that would be a good place to have a search.  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0626

Another site of interest might be Landed Estates site,  landedestates.ie which has information on the houses of the wealthier where your ancestors may have been employed as servants. One such house is https://landedestates.ie/property/1631. There appears to be a number of other houses in the area.

The County Clare Library have an extensive list of various indexes related to genealogy in the county and is also worth a search. https://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/genealog.htm

I hope this is of some help.
