Hello. I am interested in geneology. My married last name is McKean. My husband is a decendant of Thomas McKean who signed the Declaration of Independence. I have read that Thomas McKean's parents came from Ulster. I was looking for any McKean's still in Ireland. Thanks for any help.

Hi Stephanie,
Thank you very much for your message. I hope that someone with information on the family name makes a connection with you and helps you to further your research.
It may be an idea to contact the Ulster Historical Foundation to see if they can be of any assistance, however a fee may apply for their services. Here is their website:

In the meantime, you can use the Irish Times where in Ireland the surname was recorded in the mid 19th century:

You can also see what McKeans were recorded in Ireland at the turn of the century using the 1901 census records:
Some other websites that may be useful to you are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Best wishes,
Emma
