Patrick McLean left Tyrone County around 1845.Him and wife left for Canada, she died on the ship, he remarried soon after in Pickering, Ont.Canada. New wife was Mary Ann McLean, B. in Canada, her father was Michael McLean B. abt.1800 in Ireland. Don't know if related or not. Michaels father was a Patrick McLean also, B. abt 1770. In Canada they build a church and named it St. Columbkille's. Maybe that was thier Parish in Ireland. Don't have anything more on them, hoping to find a Marriage or Birth certificate with some other info. Thanks, Tomm McLean

Hi Tomm,
Thank you for your message.
Have you searched for the McLeans on Griffith?s Valuation? This is a property valuation survey that was carried out in Ireland between 1848 and 1864. Five parishes came back in the results. You can see these here:
Perhaps you could take these five parishes as a starting point for your search. You could look for records of Patrick or his parents in the church records in these parishes.
Most Catholic records are held locally. One website which you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Catholic parishes in Tyrone follow this link:
http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/tyronerc.htm
For Church of Ireland records check: http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/.
www.familysearch.org has a large collection of Irish church records available online; you may be able to find some McLeans in these.
www.rootsireland.ie also has a huge collection of records however you have to pay to use this websites.
Some other websites that you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

I hope this is helpful. Remember to post any new information that you may find. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
I would also suggest that you also post this message on the CO. Tyrone page.
