Hello: Felix McLernon and Sarah Rea were discovered to have lived on a farm in Millquarter from 1865-1884. They were both Roman Catholic and baptized their children at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Moneyglass. At least two of their children were married there. Three of the children, Isabella, Mary and Sarah emigrated to Philadelphia and married in Philadelphia. The Rea connection is of interest to our family. Two of Sarah's spinster sisters, Jane and Mary Rea, lived on Springwell St in Ballymena. All three were Roman Catholic which is not typical for that surname. Also, the Rea surname is not commonly found in either Duneane or Ballyscullion Grange. There was a Robert Rea in Gillistown in 1851, but his faith background is unknown. The presumption is that these Rea sisters are either from Ballymena or the Antrim town area. Also the McClenaghan family were often baptismal sponsors for the McLernon (McLarnon) children. Were they related to the McLernon family? Any assistance in tracking down information on this "Philly" connection would be appreciated.        Regards, Bob Brett

  • The RC baptism records for Ballymena (Kirkinriola parish) don’t start till 1848 so if that’s where the ladies were baptised there will be no record. The parish priest did conduct a census of his congregation in 1886 and you might want to check that to see if the ladies were living there then, and if so if anyone else formed part of their household. (There’s a copy in PRONI in Belfast).

If they came from Antrim town, then at the time of their births it was part of Drummaul parish (Randalstown). Their records start in 1825 and are on-line free on the National Library site:

I looked to see if either Jane or Mary left a will but neither did, or at least not one requiring probate anyway
