Hello, I am looking for my second great grandmother, Katie Farrell, who was born in Leitrim sometime between 1860-1870. She married Andrew Dunleavy but I don’t know whether they were marrried in Leitrim or New York. I also do not know whether they traveled to New York together or separately but I do know that they arrived sometime between 1885 and 1888 and that they had seven daughters in New York - the last two of whom were twins. The daughters names were: Mary Frances (1889), Margaret (1891), Beatrice (1892), Kathryn (1894), Adolpha (1898) and Helen and Sarah (1900). Mary Frances married my first great grandfather Bernard Kane (son of Thomas Kane and Mary Ann McLoughlin).
I am also looking for my third great grandparents - Michl McLoughlin and Ann Mooney born around 1835. I do not know whether they were married in Leitrim or New York or whether they went to New York together. Given their birth year, I suspect they went to New York during the famine. Once in New York, they had at least 5 children - James (1860), Mary Ann (1862), Charles (1864), Margaret (1866), and Ellen (1871). Michl appears to have passed a way in New York around 1900. Annie lived until at least 1910. Their daughter Mary Ann married my 2d great grandfather Thomas Kane in 1881.
I would be so grateful for any clues or information about Katie Farrell or Ann Mooney or Michl McLoughlin.
Thank you so much
Colleen Kane

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and was unable to locate a marriage record for Katie Farrell and Andrew Dunleavy or a marriage record between Michael McLoughlin and Anne Mooney. Likely the two couples were married in America or in a church in Ireland that no longer has records back to the marriage date.
For Katie Farrell, Roots has eighteeen baptismal records between 1860-1870. Do you have her parent's names from a death record or other source?
Same issue for Anne Mooney, do you have parents names? I did find an 1833 baptismal record for an Anne Mooney in Co. Leitrim on Roots Ireland. See below.

Hi Roger
Thank you so much for this information! The fact that there are no marriage records in Ireland is very helpful - I suspect they all came to New York separately and married after they arrived. I will will follow up on the baptism record you for for Annie - maybe I can get some corroborating information from another source to confirm this is her. I will let you know what I find out.
Thanks so much again

Hello -- i have been working on finding McLoughlins, Farrells and actually now Rooneys, not Mooneys from Leitrim.
Although my second great grandmother's (Mary Ann McLoughlin) marriage certificate lists her mother as Ann Mooney, i now have a death certificate that says her mother was Ann Rooney. In addition, i found a passenger list that shows Ann Rooney travelling with Ann McLoughlin. I think that Ann McLoughlin was Michl McLoughlin's (my 3rd great grandfather) mother and that she was travelling with her daughter-in-law to be, Ann Rooney. Ann McLoughlin and Ann Rooney arrived in NY 6 Nov 1850 on the Patrick Henry. I also found a death certificate (1894) for Michael McLoughlin with mother Ann and father James. I am looking for any help placing where in Leitrim County Michael McLoughlin and/or Ann Rooney might be from.
Thank you so much for your time.

Colleen:
I'm not having any luck with records for your family. McLoughlin and Rooney were both very common surnames in Co. Leitrim in the 19th century so trying to look at the 1857 Griffiths Valuation is problematic.
Can we work on Kate Farrell? Did you find her parents names from a death record so we can see if there is a civil birth record or baptismal record for her?
