looking for parents and grandparents of Hugh Campbell born 1792 in county tyrone.  He married a Margaret Smart in 1814 in County Tyrone.  They emigrated to Prince Edward Island Canada in 1841 aboard the MARGARET POLLARD

Hugh's daughter Mary Campbell (my great great grandmother) was born April  16 1821 in Dromore Parish County Down.  She married a William McVey on October 4 1840 in Glasgow Lanark Scotland., In checking  a Scottish website  it listed his birthplace as Antrim Ireland.

Any help in finding Hugh Campbell and William McVey/Mcveigh parents and grandparents is greatly appreciated

  • Hi Mark,

Thank you very much for your message. I hope that someone with information on this family makes a connection with you and helps you to further your research.

It may be difficult to find records however given the early dates you have mentioned. The reality of finding documentation pertaining to births/baptisms/marriages/deaths in Ireland prior to 1800 ? particularly in rural areas ? is that they simply may not exist.

It may be an idea to contact the Ulster Historical Foundation to see if they can advise or assist you. However a fee may apply. Here is their email: enquiry@uhf.org.uk

    All the best,

  • In the book Exiles and Islanders - the Irish settlers of Prince Edward Island by Brendan O'grady  page 151 it lists Hugh Campbell (m margaret smart) from cavan townland clogher district county tyrone as emigrating  to PEI aboard the Margaret Pollock in 1841.  He left with one son Hugn John Campbell and three daughters mary (my great great grandmother), margaret and catherine.  Another son Thomas left at the same time from Belfast aboard another vessel.

The author also mentions that the campbells settled in the Kelly's Cross neighborhood of PEI along with three neighbors from Ireland Hagan (m bridget brennan), John Hughes (m mary mullins) and Cusack (m Johanna Heuron)

Mary'Campbell's husband was a William McVay/McVey).  they were married in Glasgow Scotland in 1840.. Either Thomas or Hugh John campbell married a RoseAnn McManus.

Can anyone provide details on any of the people listed above.  I,m particularly interested in the campbells of cavan, clogher district or William McVey from county Antrim.
