I am looking for connections and information about Michael Queenan (Quinan/Cunnane) b. 1811 who married Catherine Timlin (Timblan) in Bolypatric near Ballina in 1829. Patrick Queenan, b 1813 was a witness at this marriage and a sponsor for their first child Dominick b. 1830 also in BolyPatric. I believe that Patrick may be my 2x great grandfather. Michael and Catherine lived in BolyPatric until at least 1834 as I have baptismal records there for children Dominick, Anthony and Patrick. Other children were born in Ireland...but locations not known....limited records suggest Sligo/Mayo but nothing definite. Michael, Catherine and all the family went to Scotland in 1846/47 and remained there. It is not known if Patrick and Michael were from this area as so far I have not found any records to indicate this.
By 1840. Patrick was in Derby England and married to Mary Howard. I am looking for any information that will correctly place he and Michael and other siblings in the right Townland/area as I am planning a trip to Ireland in late Spring of 2023 and hope to visit the ancestral home. I have DNA connections that point me to this family...so have some level of confidence it may be correct.

  • Hi

I'm not sure I can offer you much help, but I think you are looking for the surname 'Cunnane' and a number of these families can be found in Griffith's Valuation for Mayo and may offer a lead to follow

  • Hi Paul...yes you are right I am looking for the name Cunnane (later often referred to ass Queenan or Quinan).  I haven't looked at much in the griffiths evaluation as both of the parties that I am searching for had left Ireland by 1840 and 1846 respectively.  However it is always good advice to not leave any stone unturned...so will have a look at this shortly.  Who knows...maybe there is a foamily connection still in Mayo at the time of the Evaluation.

    thanks you again.

  • Hi, I'm kind of late to this (found via Google), but I have a 2nd great gma Mary Cannon / Cunane (1831 Aughagower, Mayo - 1913 Gortmellia, Mayo) whom I've tentatively matched with Michael Cunane and Catherine Timblan (from Bolypatric), (my 3rd great grandparents) who were married in 1829 in Kilmoremoy, Mayo. Verified via marriage register.  But the daughter Mary you have seems to have left Ireland while my ancestor married, had kids, and died in Mayo.  I think it explains why Michael and Catherine disappeared from the record.  Do you think there might be any connection?

    thanks
